Even Juneauites are not
used to almost 12 inches of rain in a one-month period. Of
the 31 days in August, only one was without precipitation.
Probably the worst of it was at the end of the month as the
winds increased to enhance the misery. Then a miracle
happened. We awoke Saturday to blue skies and sunny weather.
I am not sure there was a single resident who was not
outside doing something. That night, I drove to the
camp-ground near my house and took photos of the road
underwater. This is almost 24 hours after the rains stopped
and apparently the water was much higher earlier in the day. |
