A Daily Photo Essay of My Journey

There is a special plant in Southeast Alaska that hikers dread. It is the beautiful devil's club. This time of year they are at full height. Some of them are as tall as 15 feet from the ground. They grow this tall to get maximum sunlight. There is hardly a hiker who has not had some of these thorns stuck in their hand or leg. Despite the prickly nature, they are really very pretty plants.
