Wyatt in Treadwell
A Daily Photo Essay of My Journey

Near Downtown Douglas, on Douglas Island, is an old mining ghost town. After taking our students ice-skating, we walked them through the woods to Treadwell. This town used to be one of the largest cities in Alaska but after the mine flooded in 1917 it slowly dwindled down to nothing. All that remains of Treadwell are the shells of old buildings and rusty machine parts. The students enjoyed learning about this local historical place.
