Wyatt in Unalaska
A Daily Photo Essay of My Journey

Unalaska has some very nice museums that highlight the culture and history of the area. The artifacts here were at the Unalaska Museum. Above are gutskin parka. They are traditional Aleut raincoats made from the intestines of seals and other sea creatures. The hat below is based on the hats worn by the ancestral hunter hats. The baskets below are ancestral pieces that were weaved by the women out of sea-grasses. They are small pieces of art. I saw one once in a store that was the size of a thimble and was selling for $500.
