A Daily Photo Essay of My Journey

It is salmon spawning season in Alaska. Near the glacier is a small creek in which the sockeye salmon struggle to procreate. As their lives draw to a close, they enter the stream of their birth and lay 3000-5000 eggs. The chemical change that occurs upon entering fresh water darkens their color from silver to maroon. Because they do not eat once this change has happened, they slowly begin to decompose and eventually die.  The smell of dead salmon invites bears to come and eat so all must be cautious when salmon viewing.
