There are likely hundreds of landslides in Southeast Alaska every year but this slide made the front page of our local paper. Why? Probably because the slide occurred along a well-traveled trail in the Mendenhall Valley. Sometime last week a large chunk of rock broke from its hold and slide 250+ feet down over the trail. Fortunately nobody was hurt. Several people asked me to hike out and get some photos of  the slide so here are the best of them. The photos below probably give the best view of the lower section of the slide but I wanted to use the one above for perspective. The little blue dot to the left is Vic.
