The first time I saw a
street performer was in 1990 in Mexico City. There were
fire-eaters at some traffic stops (a dangerous job). I have not
seen fire-eaters in Caracas but have seen kids juggling
(some juggling fire) at street-corners. They come to the
richer parts of town from the barrios to make money.
The police don't like it but I think they mostly overlook
it. Last night there were three young jugglers entertaining
traffic at a nearby light. I asked one if I could take some
photos of them "working" and he happily accepted a little
payment for the honor. When the traffic stopped, he stepped
up and juggled for a few minutes. He skillfully knew when
the light was going to change and went down the row of cars
hoping for tips. The three of them were very friendly and I
am sure they will do well in life. |
