It is hard to think of Rio
without thinking of the famous "Christ the Redeemer" statue
that overlooks the city from Corcovado Mountain. It stands
30 meters (90 feet) high. There is a train up to it but I
took a taxi and spent 30 minutes or so taking photos. I wish
it had been a sunnier day. The statue is carved from granite
and was designed by French artists and installed in the late
1920's. Its inauguration was in 1931. It was well worth
seeing. |
