A Daily Photo Essay of My Journey

By fortuitous events, I was invited to the Diablos Danzantes by some Venezuelan friends who wished to experience this unique cultural event. There were several surprises on the trip. The first thing had to do with finding the dance. After many wrong turns and asking many strangers for directions, we found the event up an unassuming dirt road. Secondly, there were a lot fewer people than I expected. We learned that this had to do with the event we choose. Apparently there was a much more public event earlier in the week with several thousand people in attendance. There were about 200 the morning we went. I was also pleasantly surprised to run into other ECA teachers at the event. One note about the above photo. Apparently the number of necklaces the Diablos wear indicate the number of years they have participated in the event.
