Many buildings, including the one I live in, have elevators. Most are well maintained but sometimes there are mechanical difficulties. Recently I came home to find one of our guards stuck inside our building's elevator. Someone went to get a tool to release the door and after some effort I was able to get it open. A neighbor told me that she has been stuck in the elevator twice in the past 4 years. One time she was stuck for over an hour before anyone even heard her call for help. That does not give me comfort. In fact, that is one of two good reasons to use the stairs: Health and fear of entrapment.
