  Venezuela

A Daily Photo Essay of My Journey

The soccer field at ECA is affectionately known as Turfy. They tell me it is the only artificial field in all of Venezuela. It is made with a blend of plastic grass and chopped up bits of rubber also known as Turfy. I am sure that the school's cleaning crews, parents and house-cleaners get tired of cleaning up these gremlins from all over campus, car, and home. Turfy sticks to everything. This morning, in a rare occurrence, a student was sent to the nurse's office for getting some stuck in his ear. Last night I was on the field for about 90 minutes and came home with a stockpile in my shoes. Multiply that by 600 students and 183 school days and you will see that a lot of Turfy escapes each year.
