  Turkey

Wyatt in Istanbul
A Daily Photo Essay of My Journey

In the Marian Sea, within view of the city, is a small archipelago of inhabited islands that I spent a day touring. They are called the Princes' Islands because many Turkish princes found themselves exiled to the islands throughout history. There was an Orthodox school on one island that they were working to reopen. On another island was an old Orthodox Chapel atop a high-hill. There were also lots of old buildings on the islands. The path up to the top was lined with trees that had ribbons tied to them. The ribbons represented the prayers of women for their children. I did a lot of walking  because I wanted the exercise and I didn't want to pay a lot of money for the horse-taxis (which are the only taxi's available since there are no motor-vehicles on the islands). As I mentioned yesterday, this was my favorite part of my trip to Turkey.
