Ever since seeing the movie Arachnophobia (partially filmed in Canaima, Venezuela), I've wanted to see a large South American spider.  I got my chance Tuesday when asked to inspect a car for a spider that had been seen walking across it. With flashlight in hand, I was able to find the spider hidden in the wheel-well. Flicking it with a large spoon, I soon captured it in a plastic cup. Someone asked me why I didn't put a dime by it for perspective in the photo.  With teeth like that, I would do no such thing. The spider was about the size of the palm of my hand. I would be interested in knowing more about this arachnid if anyone is able to identify it. Early research indicates that it is a sun spider.
