Wyatt in Canaima
A Daily Photo Essay of My Journey

Of course the crown jewel of my trip to Canaima was seeing the world's tallest waterfall. Angel Falls is 2663 ft tall (16 times the height of Niagara Falls) and is as impressive as it sounds. It is located 30 miles upriver from Canaima and a full hour hike through rainforest from the boat. I was pleasantly surprised at how under-developed the area was considering the number of tourists who visit. When we first got there, the falls were mostly covered with clouds so we swam in the little lake below the second tier until the clouds lifted. The waterfall comes off a large plateau called Auyán-Tepul which was considered sacred by the natives.
