A Daily Photo Essay of My Journey

After an airplane ride from Caracas and an extremely bumpy truck ride, we came to our main mode of transportation... a dugout canoe. These boats were sturdy, having been carved out of a single tree. An engine on the back was able to propel us up and down river, sometimes narrowly missing large rocks. Overall the river was slow moving but a few spots had rapids and most of my stuff got soaked from the river-wash. We were lucky to have a high enough water table that we were not required to jump out and help push the boat over low areas.
