On Saturday, I traveled
with two friends to Colonia Tovar, a Venezuelan-German
settlement about an hour and a half west of Caracas. Colonia
Tovar is located in the mountains, elevation 6,000 feet. I
was quite impressed with the beauty of the town and its
surrounding. Because it was essentially isolated from its
founding in 1843 until a paved road was built in 1963, it
has a distinct German feel. We spent the day walking around
the town, visiting shops, and buying vegetables. I felt like
I was 1000 miles from the city. It was great!
