A common hard-wood tree in Caracas is this spiky one called Jabillo. Pedestrians must be mindful not to accidentally walk into one of these, much less put their hand on one. Just in taking these photos I accidentally pricked myself. I can't imagine why a tree that is this hard would need so much protection.
