Trinidad & Tobago

Wyatt in Trinidad
A Daily Photo Essay of My Journey

After much trouble, we found the the Asa Wright Nature Center tucked-up in the mountains above Arima, Trinidad.   This bird sanctuary is a Mecca for birders (or as we found out "twitchers") of the world.  The description from our travel guide sums it up perfectly:  "Resident guests tend to be middle-aged American bird fanatics toting state-of-the-art binoculars or camera equipment  and checklists of a days sightings are enthusiastically compiled over sunset rum punches."  To say the least, we felt conspicuous as we confessed to guests that we had only come to relax.  We did enjoy close ups of several birds, including a rare sighting of the elusive Bell Bird.
