One of the unique things about living in Juneau is the multiplicity of bears and bear problems. If a bear figures out that there is free food in a garbage can, they can become dangerous. So, many citizens in Juneau rent or buy bear proof garbage cans. We bought ours from a neighbor who moved away. We know this one works because last summer we watched a bear trying to get into it..... without success.
