Juneau, Alaska

May 17, 2008

A month ago an avalanche took out the hydro-electric power lines leading into Juneau. Kilowatt hours jumped from 11¢ to 42.9 ¢ per hour and Juneau residence have had to go into hyper energy conservation. In our household, all lights have been changed to energy saving florescent bulbs and we are living with minimal heating. We've also unplugged everything that sucks even the smallest amount of energy. We will await next month's electric bill with trepidation. Fortunately AEL&P says that we will return to our regular rates sometime in the summer. I hope so.
